Quebec isn’t the only city with a carnival

February-28-12

The event list of the 46th edition of the Sherbrooke winter carnival

Even if we haven’t gotten a huge amount of snow this year, the winter carnival of Sherbrooke promises that its 46th edition will be just as spectacular as the 45 others that preceded it.

Since 1966, the carnival has been entertaining people of all ages thanks to a wide range of activities that can please just about anybody. The carnival is now associated with the famous Rendez-Vous Loto-Québec and the organisation committee predicts that an average of 50 000 visitors will visit the site during the 4 days of activities that will take part from March 01 to March 03, 2012.

The carnival will be held at the Jacques-Cartier Park for the third year in a row. Jogging aficionados will be able to run around the lac des Nations thanks to two paths that were created especially for fans of this sport. For the professionals that aren’t afraid of a challenge, a path of 5 km will be created while beginners will be able to trek around a path that will total 1 km in length.

Amongst the new activities that are scheduled for the 2012 edition, the nocturnal village is sure to attract the crowds with activities that will go on all through the night. Many artists will be on the scene including DJ Mini, a well known name in Montreal’s techno night life that is going to keep the crowd moving all night long.

Of course, the new activities will not replace the good old ones that gave the event its reputation throughout all of the Eastern Townships over the past few years. Clowns, public entertainers, makeup artists, people who breathe fire and a bunch of other colorful characters will be all over the carnival grounds for the entire weekend. The famous ball hockey tournament will once again be held this year. A brand new playing surface was constructed especially for the event at the lac des Nations.

Here are the other activities that will be held during the carnival:

With such a wide list of activities, it will be vital for anyone visiting from outside of town to find a place to stay during the weekend of the carnival. By renting a condo in the Magog region, you will be closer to the carnival and you will benefit from a good night’s sleep that will give you the energy needed to return to the site of the carnival the following day!
